A preliminary registration is required before taking the test: the candidate's name, surname, the level of the test (TORFL-1, TORFL-2 or TORFL-3) to be taken, and the preferable date of the test.

To pass the exam the candidate must have at least 66% in each section (subtest). If the candidate receives less than 66% in one of the subtests, they are eligible to retake the test on the failed subtest for an additional fee (50% of the exam cost). The results of successfully passed subtests are taken into account when retaking the test.

The test certificates are issued to candidates who passed the test successfully.

TORFL-1:
Duration - 3 hours 50 min.

TORFL-2:
Duration - 4 hours 40 min.

TORFL-3:
Duration - 5 hours.

On the day of the test the candidate must arrive to the testing center no later than 15 minutes before the test starts.

It is not allowed to bring any Russian language textbooks, mobile phones, cameras, notebooks to the classroom where the test is being taken. The candidate can bring a paper dictionary (it is allowed when completing certain test tasks).

Before the test starts, the candidate listens to the instructions and can ask questions if necessary. However, the candidate is not allowed to ask questions during the test.

When the time for taking the test is over, the candidate must hand in the work to the examinator. The time limits for each subtest are listed in the instructions.

TORFL-I (В1):

The certificate confirms the general knowledge of Russian as a foreign language at the intermediate level and the candidate’s ability to participate in social and cultural interactions. TORFL-I certificate is required for admission to undergraduate programmes at Russian universities.

TORFL-II (В2):

The certificate confirms the general knowledge of Russian as a foreign language at the upper-intermediate level and the candidate’s ability to participate effectively in different interactions, including professional interaction in the fields of humanities, natural sciences, and engineering. TORFL-II certificate is required for obtaining a bachelor’s and master’s degree in the aforementioned professional fields.

TORFL-III (C1):

The certificate confirms the general knowledge of Russian as a foreign language at the advanced level and the candidate’s ability to participate effectively in all situations and interactions, including professional interaction in the Russian-speaking professional environment. The holders of TORFL-III certificate can work professionally as linguists, interpreters, translators, editors, journalists, or diplomats. The TORFL-III level certificate is required for obtaining a bachelor’s, specialist’s, master’s degree, or a PhD in the aforementioned professional fields.
